Trees

The following is a list of  the trees that we hope to have for sale at some point this year.  Please call or email to check current availability.  The heights and spreads given in the descriptions are what you can expect for a mature tree approximately ten years of age.

Betula jacquemontii (Himalayan Birch)

Deciduous tree
Shape
: Open pyramidal habit
Foliage: Ovate, double-serrate, yellow-green to green leaves (to 2-3″ long) turn golden in fall.
Flower: Yellowish-brown  drooping catkins in late spring.
Fruit: Drooping cone-like fruits containing numerous small winged seeds in fall.
Bark: Noted for its exceptional white colour.
Wet areas, needs summer water. Prune when dormant.
Likes sun.
H 30’-40’ W 20’-30’

Betula nigra ‘Dura Heat’ (River Birch)

Fast growing.
Shape: Upright, rounded canopy.
Foliage: Medium to dark green leaves that stay green even in hot summers.
Fall Colour: Gold.
Bark: Bark peels early revealing creamy white inner colour, nice for winter interest.
Very heat tolerant, making it more resistant to bronze birch borer.
Likes Sun, drought and moisture tolerant.

Betula nigra ‘Shiloh Splash’ (Variegated)

Slow growing deciduous
Shape
: rounded.
Foliage: Cream white to yellow with a green center, smaller than the species.
Fall Colour: Yellow.
Winter: Peeling bark in winter
Low maintenance and is highly resistant to bronze birch borer.
Full sun to part shade, moist to wet soil.
